The species has a single virus member, Bundibugyo virus (BDBV). The members of the species are called Bundibugyo ebolaviruses.〔 The name ''Bundibugyo ebolavirus'' is derived from ''Bundibugyo'' (the name of the chief town of the Ugandan Bundibugyo District, where Bundibugyo virus was first discovered) and the taxonomic suffix ''ebolavirus'' (which denotes an ebolavirus species).〔
